Yusuf Swears In Two New Commissioners

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has sworn in two new commissioners: Sanusi Tofa (also referred to as Sanusi Bature), his former Director-General of Media and Publicity, and Balarabe Gani, a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly.

Tofa was appointed Commissioner for Information, while Gani will head the Ministry of Solid Minerals. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Government House in Kano on Friday night, with the state Attorney-General, Abdulkareem Maude, administering the oaths of office.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Yusuf charged the new commissioners to carry out their duties with dedication, humility, transparency and accountability in line with his administration’s “Kano First” agenda.

The governor specifically tasked Tofa with ensuring the timely and effective dissemination of government information. He also directed him to intensify public sensitisation on the dangers of drug abuse, illicit drugs and tobacco consumption, and to collaborate with the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to strengthen awareness campaigns.

Yusuf urged Gani to develop the solid minerals sector so that it becomes a significant contributor to the state’s economic growth. The appointments fill vacancies created after a recent cabinet reshuffle in which the previous holders of the Information and Solid Minerals portfolios were redeployed.
