The National Chairman of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has accused President Bola Tinubu of personally financing his 2023 presidential campaign, claiming he entered office without adequately studying Nigeria’s challenges.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Baba-Ahmed argued that Tinubu’s rise to power was self-funded, unlike past leaders who relied heavily on financial contributions from supporters.
“He single-handedly bought his way into power. He could quite possibly be the only president who campaigned for and paid for his campaign to become president,” Baba-Ahmed said.
“Maybe that was why he said, ‘Emi Lokan.’ Tinubu is the only president who people didn’t give billions because he had his own money.”
He further criticized Tinubu for assuming office without taking time to understand the country’s political and economic trajectory, suggesting this lack of preparation has contributed to governance challenges.
The remarks add to Baba-Ahmed’s history of outspoken criticism of the administration, as he has previously described Tinubu’s leadership as a failure and warned of growing discontent in the North ahead of the 2027 elections.
