Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have killed two Nigerian soldiers and a Chinese national during an assault on construction workers in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday, was reportedly carried out by militants who infiltrated Kebbi through Kebbe Local Government Area in neighboring Sokoto State.
The victims were part of a team working on the Badagry Super Highway project.Confirming the incident, Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, said the soldiers were providing security for the Chinese national and other workers when the terrorists launched a surprise attack.
“The soldiers killed were guarding the Chinese national and other workers when the terrorists struck, killing two soldiers and one Chinese national and injuring others,” Usman stated.
He described the assault as “barbaric and unwarranted,” adding that joint security agencies have begun a manhunt for the attackers. While the identities of the slain soldiers were not disclosed, authorities confirmed they were military personnel.
The incident has heightened security concerns in border communities between Kebbi and Sokoto states, where suspected Lakurawa elements have been accused of carrying out repeated attacks and infiltrations.
