ADC Rejects INEC Warning, Vows to Publish Independently Collated Election Results

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed warnings from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against publishing privately collated election results, insisting that citizens and political parties have the constitutional right to collect, collate, and share polling-unit outcomes.

In a statement issued on Thursday, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party would deploy its agents and grassroots structures during the 2027 general elections to document results at polling units, collate figures, and release verified information to the public.

While acknowledging INEC’s statutory role in declaring official results and announcing winners, the ADC argued that the commission’s mandate does not prevent political parties, candidates, or citizens from independently gathering and disseminating electoral data.

“Our agents will document results, our structures will collate them, and we will communicate verified figures to the public, clearly identifying their source and status,” Abdullahi stated.

The party emphasized that its collation system would not serve as an alternative to INEC’s official declaration but as a transparency mechanism to make polling-unit results accessible.

It maintained that transparency in elections should not be limited to the electoral commission alone, stressing that political parties and citizens also have a legitimate role in documenting the voting process.

The ADC pledged that any figures it publishes will be clearly identified as independently collated results, not official declarations.

The party said its position was aimed at affirming constitutional rights to freedom of expression and access to electoral information, while still recognizing INEC as the legally empowered body to declare winners.

This development comes as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections, with transparency in collation and transmission of results expected to remain a major issue.
