The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, has declared that the people of Rivers will resist any attempt to impose a governor on them in the 2027 elections.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Pidomson dismissed the influence of the “Rainbow Coalition” led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, insisting that the coalition cannot sway voters away from their preferred choice.
“The 2027 election is not just between Pidomson and others. It is Rivers people versus others. Rivers State is nobody’s private estate; it is our common patrimony,” he said.
Pidomson accused Wike’s political camp of dominating the state without delivering tangible benefits, questioning what projects the former governor had attracted to Rivers since becoming FCT minister.
He argued that appointments influenced by Wike had largely served his allies rather than the wider populace.
The ADC candidate revealed that his campaign had engaged in consultations across ethnic and stakeholder groups, uncovering a strong desire for a “responsive and responsible” government.
He outlined a 10-point policy agenda focused on the welfare of Rivers people and vowed that “they cannot rig us out.”
Pidomson pledged to deploy agents across polling units to monitor voting and collation, urging voters to remain at polling stations until results are announced.
He condemned reported restrictions on political activities and called on security agencies to protect citizens’ constitutional rights.
On opposition from some Ogoni leaders, Pidomson maintained that the electorate would not be swayed by a handful of beneficiaries of the current system. He insisted that his support base cuts across ethnic lines, declaring:
“The entire Rivers people are my structures.”He urged voters to resist intimidation and vote according to conscience, even if offered inducements.
“They will come to bribe you with money; collect it but vote for ADC,” he said.Pidomson concluded by affirming his readiness for the 2027 contest, stating: “I am intellectually, emotionally, and physically prepared to lead Rivers State.”
