A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee, Tolu Bankole, has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in supporting President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, stressing that consistency is key to achieving long-term prosperity.
Bankole, who also serves as APC National Leader for Persons with Disabilities, made the appeal in Abuja during Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
He welcomed Tinubu back from his working vacation abroad, noting that the President’s return should signal renewed focus on implementing policies that drive growth and improve citizens’ welfare.
Acknowledging the sacrifices imposed by the reforms, Bankole warned against abandoning them prematurely, arguing that such a move could undermine progress already recorded.
He highlighted recent economic indicators, including a 3.89% GDP growth in Q1 2026 and manufacturing expansion of 3.29% year-on-year, as evidence of Nigeria’s steady trajectory.
He also cited the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to reduce the Monetary Policy Rate to 23% and ongoing foreign exchange reforms, such as market unification and clearance of verified backlogs which have boosted external reserves from $33.6bn in October 2023 to $37.9bn by July 2024.
Bankole emphasized that reforms like the Petroleum Industry Act, Nigeria Tax Act 2025, and banking recapitalisation programme are critical anchors for revenue, investment, and resilience.
According to him, these measures will ultimately enhance business stability, investor confidence, employment, and access to credit, while providing government with resources to fund infrastructure and social programmes.
“The sacrifices of today must lead to real, measurable prosperity for every household tomorrow,” he said, urging Nigerians to back the APC-led government in the forthcoming general elections to ensure continuity of reforms.
