Oyebanji Urges Muslims to Back Tinubu's Re-Election

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has called on Muslim residents in the state to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election, highlighting the Federal Government’s interventions and assistance to Ekiti.

The governor made the appeal on Friday during a special Jumat thanksgiving service at the Central Mosque in Ado-Ekiti.

The event formed part of activities marking the start of his second term in office. A statement released on Saturday detailed his remarks.

Oyebanji also reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, promising that members of the Muslim community and other stakeholders would continue to have opportunities to participate in his administration.

He thanked the Muslim community for their prayers and support throughout his first term and asked for sustained intercession as he begins the new tenure.

“I am here to give thanks to God and my father, the Grand Imam. Thank you for your support; I also thank the Muslim community for your prayers,” he said.

“I want to appeal to you today to continue to pray for us so that we will be able to do more. I assure you that my government will ensure that more Muslims will be given the opportunity to serve during the second term.”

The governor praised the performance of Muslim appointees in his administration, noting that he had consulted the Grand Imam before selecting some of them.

“I have to say this publicly: all Muslims that worked with me performed exceptionally well. The wisdom I used when we want to appoint them is that I consulted the Grand Imam, who gave me the best, and I thank all of them for their exceptional performance,” he stated.

He then urged the Muslim community to back Tinubu’s re-election as a way of appreciating the Federal Government’s support and developmental interventions in Ekiti.

Oyebanji added that his government would keep prioritising residents’ welfare and collaborating with religious bodies and other stakeholders to advance peace, unity and progress in the state.

Earlier, Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere Bello, President-General of the League of Imams and Alfas for the South-West, Edo and Delta States, commended Oyebanji for giving Muslims opportunities to serve and contribute to the state’s development.

He praised the performance of the Muslim appointees and encouraged them to continue justifying the trust placed in them.

Bello also called on Muslims to keep praying for the governor and other leaders while fostering religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.

The service was attended by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Secretary to the State Government Habibat Adubiaro, members of the State Executive Council, and Senator Babafemi Ojudu.
