Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, has dismissed Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential bid as “dead on arrival.”
Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, made the remark in a statement issued by his campaign spokesman, Bisi Oladele, on Tuesday.
Makinde is contesting the presidency under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). However, Alli argued that recent political developments, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s public commendation of President Bola Tinubu’s performance, have exposed the weakness of Makinde’s ambition.
According to Alli, Makinde’s candidacy appears to be “a smokescreen for negotiation” rather than a serious bid for power. He added that the governor’s campaign is collapsing under contradictions, especially as political allies validate the achievements of the incumbent president.
“For Governor Makinde, the political message could not be clearer. His presidential campaign is collapsing under the weight of its own contradictions before the real contest has even begun,” Alli said.
He urged Makinde to focus on his stewardship in Oyo State, stressing that the people are more concerned about his legacy as governor than his presidential aspirations.
