PDP chieftain and convener of The Alternative Movement, Otunba Segun Sowunmi, has urged Nigerians to dismiss rumours about President Bola Tinubu’s health, insisting the President remains “in good health and of sound mind.”
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Sowunmi cautioned against what he described as a culture of celebrating negative developments and indulging in “continuous self-hate.”
His remarks followed renewed speculation over Tinubu’s absence from the United Nations General Assembly, with critics suggesting it was due to medical reasons. Sowunmi dismissed such claims as political rumours, noting similar speculation had surfaced in the past.
“You cannot indulge in continuous self-hate to the extent that all you’re looking for is bad news. The President is in good health. The President is in sound mind,” he said.
Sowunmi urged Nigerians to focus on positive developments capable of attracting investment and promoting growth, rather than amplifying negative narratives.
He also criticised opposition figures for failing to acknowledge progress while highlighting challenges.
On Ogun State’s voting strength, Sowunmi emphasised that with nearly three million registered voters, the state should produce turnout figures comparable to Kano, Katsina, or Kaduna.
He expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure victory in Ogun during the 2027 presidential election, urging residents to vote in large numbers.
He further pledged support for Governor Dapo Abiodun in the forthcoming Ogun East senatorial election, stressing the importance of effective representation given the district’s proximity to the business community and the Presidency.
