2027: Akume, Nasarawa Governor Spearhead North-Central Push for Tinubu

Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume on Friday led political leaders and stakeholders from Nigeria’s North-Central region in launching a grassroots mobilisation effort aimed at securing strong support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027.

The North-Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for Tinubu/Shettima 2027 held its inaugural meeting at Akume’s office in Abuja, according to a statement released on Saturday by the group’s National Coordinator, Sonny Echono.

Akume said the movement’s main goal is to build broad backing and drive high voter turnout for the president across the region.

He praised Echono for bringing the stakeholders together and noted that the North-Central zone is aiming to deliver the highest regional vote total for Tinubu.

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule described the initiative as timely. He said the region is better positioned politically than it was before the 2023 election, pointing to the presence of the SGF, the APC national chairman, and other key appointees from the zone as signs of strengthened influence.

Sule expressed confidence that the area would deliver a solid performance for Tinubu and other APC candidates.

Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris called the movement the first of its kind and assured participants that the necessary structures would be put in place to support its work ahead of the 2027 polls.

Echono explained that the platform seeks to coordinate leaders and grassroots stakeholders across the six North-Central states.

“The conversation is no longer simply about whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win the North-Central, but about the region positioning itself to deliver the highest number of votes to the President in the 2027 election,” he said.

He also thanked Akume, the North-Central Governors’ Forum, and other stakeholders for their backing of the administration.
