The Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Francis Nwifuru to retract his recent comments urging local government chairmen to enforce total All Progressives Congress (APC) dominance ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking on a live radio programme Friday, PDP Publicity Secretary Darlington Peter-Onwe condemned the governor’s remarks as inciting and dangerous, warning they could fuel political violence in the state.
“The Governor should apologise to Ebonyians or resign. He has violated the fundamental objectives of state policy. Section 14 of the Constitution makes protection of lives and property the primary responsibility of government. By making such statements, he is insinuating violence,” the PDP stated.
Governor Nwifuru had earlier charged newly sworn-in council chairmen and deputies in Abakaliki to ensure APC victory in their respective local government areas during the 2027 polls, warning of consequences if they failed.
The PDP insisted that such rhetoric undermines democracy and has already triggered hostility against opposition members and journalists in the state.
It urged the governor to take responsibility for his words and commit to protecting all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
