The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced plans to conduct new governorship primaries in Gombe and Nasarawa States following the withdrawal of its earlier candidates from the 2027 race.
In a letter dated August 24, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party confirmed that the primaries would be conducted through the direct primary mode.
Signed by SDP National Chairman, Prof. Sadiq Gombe, and National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye, the notice stated that the elections would take place today at 11 a.m.
The Gombe primary is scheduled for the SDP State Secretariat, while the Nasarawa exercise will be held at Ta’al Hotel, Lafia.
The party explained that the fresh primaries were necessary to replace candidates who voluntarily stepped down, attaching letters and affidavits of withdrawal to its communication with INEC.
According to the SDP, the commission has been invited to monitor the exercise to ensure transparency and compliance with electoral guidelines.
