Osun APC Lawyers Deny Filing Petition Against Adeleke’s Victory

The legal team representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has distanced itself from a petition purportedly filed to challenge Governor Ademola Adeleke’s win in the August 15 governorship election.

Senior lawyer Adekunle Adegoke clarified on Monday that neither APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji nor the party authorized any petition before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

He explained that after reviewing the election outcome, the legal team advised against contesting the result to reduce political tension and promote peace.

“From the second day after the election, our team of Senior Advocates advised that the best course of action was not to go to the tribunal,” Adegoke said.

He noted that while irregularities may have occurred, the decision was deliberate, stressing that Oyebamiji voluntarily congratulated Governor Adeleke after the announcement of results.

Adegoke condemned the petition displayed at the tribunal, describing it as “unauthorized” and filed by individuals “masquerading as APC lawyers.”

APC chieftain Adebayo Adedamola also rejected any involvement, affirming his endorsement of Adeleke and insisting there was no basis for a legal challenge.

The controversy arose after two petitions surfaced at the tribunal in Osogbo, one allegedly from the APC and another from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite earlier reports that no petitions had been filed before the 21-day constitutional deadline expired.
