The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of victimising local government workers over alleged political affiliations.
In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC claimed that the Osun State Local Government Service Commission had set up a committee to investigate council staff suspected of supporting the opposition during the August 15 governorship election.
The party alleged that the committee, chaired by Tunji Adeleke Jnr, the governor’s nephew and head of the commission summoned workers to face disciplinary panels, where their mobile phones were reportedly searched for communications with APC members.
It further claimed that workers’ banking transactions, particularly with UBA, were scrutinized as part of the probe into local government funds.
“It is inhuman, barbaric, unconstitutional for you to victimise and dehumanise LG workers on their political affiliation,” the APC said.
According to the party, some workers were threatened with dismissal or suspension, while others had their salary accounts deactivated.
The APC urged Governor Adeleke to restore the affected accounts and disband what it described as an “obnoxious committee.”
The allegations come amid a prolonged dispute over control of Osun’s 30 local government councils, with APC-backed officials and the state government locked in a power struggle.
As of press time, the state government’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, had not responded to the claims.
