A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has declared that only God and President Bola Tinubu know the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Thursday on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Galadima discussed the NDC’s preparations for the poll and the party’s presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Asked if he expected a free and fair election, Galadima voiced strong doubts. He alleged that recent developments involving opposition figures had raised serious concerns.
“If you are dealing with criminals and fraudsters like these ones we have, you can’t be sure of anything. Only God and Tinubu know what will happen to this election,” he said.
Galadima claimed opposition politicians and their supporters had faced coordinated attacks, pointing to incidents in Enugu, an episode involving Obi in Benue State, and an attack on an African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Kaduna.
Despite these worries, he expressed confidence in the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket. He insisted the pair would triumph if the election is free, fair and transparent.
“Obi and Kwankwaso will win this election if it is free, fair and transparent, unless somebody decides to use the machinery of government and take it away from them,” Galadima stated.
He disclosed that he chairs the coordinating strategic committee for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and that the committee is working to harmonise their political blueprints.
He described the pairing as complementary, noting that Obi and Kwankwaso bring different strengths and experiences from Anambra and Kano respectively.
Galadima called the ticket a “healing ticket” for Nigeria, stressing that any administration under them would not be divided along factional lines but would serve the whole country.
He listed national unity, restoring public confidence in government, and improving security as key priorities.
He also criticised reports of academics publicly declaring support for Tinubu, arguing they should not later be recruited to participate in the election process.
On opposition strategy, Galadima said it was not necessary for all opposition parties to field a single candidate against the incumbent, as parties could still pursue their own arrangements within the law.
