Social media critic, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has called on youths in Benue State to redirect their energy from political disruptions to tackling insecurity in their communities.
His remarks followed the recent obstruction of 2027 presidential hopeful Peter Obi’s movement during a visit to the state.
In a video posted online, VDM said he was initially impressed by the large turnout of youths but later questioned why such mobilisation was not seen when bandits and terrorists attacked local communities.
“If Benue youths can come out in numbers to chase somebody, tomorrow when bandits or terrorists attack, we know say una get squad wey sabi chase,” he said.
VDM lamented that despite years of violence, including farmer killings and community attacks, young people were more easily mobilised for political battles than for demanding accountability or security.
He recalled protests after the Yelewata massacre, where demonstrators were dispersed with tear gas, and accused politicians of exploiting youth frustrations for partisan gains.
He urged Benue youths to recognise their collective power and channel it towards pressing issues such as safety, governance, and community protection.
“I nearly cried when I watched that video. I was looking at it like, ‘Is this my Benue people?’” he added.
VDM concluded that Obi’s disrupted visit should serve as a wake-up call, reminding young people of their potential to drive meaningful change when united.
