Arise News anchor, Oseni Rufai, has pledged to continue speaking truth to power despite opposition, following a heated on-air exchange with Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The incident occurred during Friday’s edition of The Morning Show when Rufai pressed Olayinka to respond to questions about the inclusion of former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, in a presidential campaign council despite corruption allegations.
Olayinka refused, objecting to Rufai’s use of a Yoruba phrase and declaring he would not answer any questions from him.
The interview was cut short after fellow anchor Ayo Mairo-Ese reminded Olayinka that guests are expected to engage with all anchors on the programme.
In a post on his verified X handle, Rufai thanked Nigerians for their support and vowed to remain steadfast in holding leaders accountable.
He drew parallels with the struggles of late labour leader Pa Michael Imoudu, who faced resistance during the 1945 general strike.
“It takes a trained mind to see oppression. I will continue to speak truth to power despite opposition from people benefiting from the ruination of Nigeria. For those benefitting from the ruination of Nigeria, we will never agree and we ought not to,” Rufai stated.
He argued that some individuals side with oppressors because they profit from the system, but insisted that his commitment to challenging injustice remains firm.
