Lawal Daura, former Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and current vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has insisted that he remained loyal to late former President Muhammadu Buhari throughout his administration, while rejecting claims that he was part of any cabal.
Appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday night, Daura said his role as intelligence chief required him to be close to the president, but that closeness should not be misinterpreted as membership of a cabal.
“There was no cabal, and even if there was, the schedule I handled as intelligence chief could never make me part of it,” Daura stated.
He lamented that Buhari was surrounded by sycophants who deceived him and betrayed his trust, stressing that he personally stood by the president and protected his government.
Daura further argued that the administration began to falter after his exit in 2018, noting that while irregularities existed, his loyalty to Buhari remained intact.
“The sycophants around Buhari deceived him and took advantage of that government,” he added.
