Gunmen on Saturday attacked members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) during a grassroots mobilisation meeting in Obuoffia Ward, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. during a voter sensitisation exercise organised by the party. Witnesses reported that one person was shot, while attendees fled in panic as gunfire erupted.
A video from the scene showed party members seated moments before the attack, followed by chaos as gunshots rang out and participants scrambled for safety.
Details about the victim’s identity and condition remain unclear, as well as the motive behind the assault. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The attack highlights ongoing security concerns in the region, raising questions about the safety of political gatherings ahead of the 2027 elections.
