The Democratic Republic of Congo has begun a study tour of Nigeria’s local content framework to strengthen indigenous participation in its oil and gas sector.
A high-level delegation led by DRC Minister of Hydrocarbons Simplice Stev Onanga arrived in Nigeria to examine the policies, institutions and strategies that have boosted local involvement in the country’s petroleum industry.
According to a statement by Dr Obinna Ezeobi, General Manager of Corporate Communications at the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the visit aims to understudy Nigeria’s experience for possible adaptation in the DRC.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, received the delegation in Abuja on Monday.
He noted that Nigeria is ready to share its knowledge with other African oil-producing nations and disclosed that the country has achieved 61 per cent local content capacity since the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act was enacted 16 years ago.
Onanga said the DRC team was in Nigeria to learn from the country’s achievements and adapt relevant elements of the framework to its own industry.
“We are proud to be in Nigeria to witness what has been accomplished,” he stated.The study tour runs until Friday.
The delegation is scheduled to visit the NCDMB headquarters in Bayelsa State, fabrication facilities at the Onne Free Zone, a Nigeria LNG supplier session, the University of Port Harcourt Gas Centre, LADOL/Nigerdock yards and other key oil and gas facilities.
