Rotimi Amaechi, vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has cautioned Nigerians against re-electing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 polls, warning that such a choice would deepen poverty across the country.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Obigwe, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, the former governor accused Tinubu’s administration of worsening hardship since the removal of fuel subsidy.
Amaechi urged party members to mobilize new supporters, stressing the need for “foot soldiers” ahead of the election. He contrasted Tinubu’s policies with Atiku Abubakar’s promises, claiming that Atiku would restore fuel and electricity subsidies to ease the burden on citizens.
“Tinubu removed the fuel subsidy, and since then, have we rested? Are you not suffering? Poverty will reduce if Atiku wins, because fuel prices will come down, electricity costs will drop, and the cost of living will ease. You have a choice: vote Tinubu and die of poverty, or vote Atiku and make money,” Amaechi declared.
He also recalled his tenure as Rivers State governor, highlighting investments in education, healthcare, and crime reduction, contrasting them with what he described as neglect under Tinubu’s leadership.
