US Missionary Criticizes Pastor Adeboye Over RCCG Donation to Tinubu Govt

A United States missionary, Alex Barbir, has strongly criticized Pastor Enoch Adeboye, founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), for the church’s financial donation to President Bola Tinubu’s administration to support the evacuation of stranded Nigerians from South Africa.

Barbir described the donation as “an act of slavery,” questioning why a religious institution would provide funds for a government-led exercise while Christians in Nigeria continue to face insecurity and attacks.

The RCCG reportedly contributed $265,854 to facilitate the evacuation of 500 Nigerians who sought to return home following xenophobic violence in South Africa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the donation, praising it as “an act of compassion and solidarity.”According to the ministry, the funds will cover one-way flight tickets for the affected Nigerians.

Reacting, Barbir argued that church leaders should focus on addressing domestic challenges rather than supporting government initiatives.

He has previously spoken out against killings in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region and criticized the government’s response to attacks on communities.
