Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has dared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to allow the release of records allegedly linked to him and held by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
In a statement issued by his media team on Friday, Atiku dismissed renewed allegations of financial crimes against him as recycled attacks from political rivals.
He argued that the government’s focus on decades-old controversies reflects desperation rather than accountability.
Atiku pointed to the hardship Nigerians are facing, rising food prices, inflation, high electricity tariffs, and declining purchasing power as evidence that Tinubu’s administration is struggling to defend its economic record.
“When those defending this government can no longer explain why food, transportation, rent, education, insecurity and healthcare are increasingly beyond the reach of ordinary families, they rummage through twenty-year-old files looking for an escape route. This is panic dressed up as accountability,” Atiku said.
He further noted that Tinubu had previously sought to block the release of FBI and DEA records in a U.S. court, citing privacy concerns. According to Atiku, this undermines Tinubu’s credibility in demanding scrutiny of others.
“My challenge is simple: let every lawful record be opened and every allegation tested. Let Nigerians see who welcomes scrutiny and who hides behind privacy arguments when the files concern him,” he declared.
