Sanwo-Olu Rewards LASU Best Graduating Students With ₦20m Each


Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a personal cash gift of ₦20 million each to the overall best graduating students of Lagos State University for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.


The governor made the announcement on Wednesday during LASU’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies at the university’s Ojo campus.


The beneficiaries are Ayilara Olawale, who graduated with a 4.96 CGPA in Project Management Technology, and Adebanjo Oluolamide, who earned a 4.97 CGPA in Aerospace Engineering. 


Both graduated with First Class Honours.Sanwo-Olu, in a video shared by his aide Jubril Gawat, said: “Ayilara Lawal Olawale and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, each one of you will earn 20 million naira each.”


The announcement comes shortly after Oluolamide received an additional ₦10 million prize from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme for his outstanding performance.


LASU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello had earlier revealed that over 20,000 students would graduate across the two sessions, including 494 First Class graduates.


Both awardees expressed gratitude on social media, attributing their success to divine grace and perseverance. Olawale described his achievement as “a product of Allah’s grace,” while Oluolamide wrote: “All glory to God for His grace, wisdom, and strength every step of the way.”


Sanwo-Olu’s gesture underscores his administration’s commitment to celebrating academic excellence and motivating students to strive for distinction.
