Police Arrest Man Over Qur’an Desecration in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, for allegedly desecrating the Holy Qur’an in Zuru Local Government Area.

Musa, a resident of Rafin Mose Village, was taken into custody on charges of criminal conspiracy, abuse of religious books, use of fetish practices, and incitement.

Police spokesperson Bashir Usman said the incident occurred on August 9 in the Zango area of Zuru.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Musa conspired with two other suspects, Rabi’u Tela and Hamza Zango who remain at large.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly buried a copy of the Qur’an inside a pit dug in the room of Tela’s wife, Zarau Hassan, alongside semen, kolanuts, underwear, dead animals, and other fetish items.

The act was reportedly intended to make Zarau “more submissive” to her husband. The command warned that the incident could provoke unrest among Muslim faithful.

Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia condemned the alleged desecration, vowing decisive action against anyone threatening religious harmony and public peace.

Musa remains in custody and will face charges in court once investigations are concluded, while efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
