Osun to Launch Inquiry into Election-Period K1llings — Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced plans to set up an independent commission of inquiry immediately after the August 15 governorship election to investigate cases of extrajudicial killings and election-related violence.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, in Osogbo on Friday, Adeleke expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones during the unrest.

He emphasized that politics must never cost lives, regardless of party affiliation.

“The Osun State Government expresses its deepest condolences to the families of all persons who have tragically lost their lives in incidents of violence during this election period. Every life lost is an Osun life,” Adeleke stated.

The governor assured residents that the commission would uncover the circumstances surrounding the killings and recommend actions to ensure justice.

He pledged that those responsible would face consequences, irrespective of their political standing or influence.Adeleke also promised a framework to support and compensate bereaved families, stressing that victims’ memories would be honoured.

“The election will come and go, but we will remain one people. We owe the dead justice, their families compassion, and the people of Osun a peaceful future,” he said.

Recent months have seen reports of suspected cultists allegedly operating under political protection, fueling concerns about rising violence in the state.
