The European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria Election Observation Hub (EU-SDGN EOH) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to guarantee transparent result transmission and deploy adequate personnel ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
Speaking at a pre-election press conference on Friday, Jake Epelle of TAF Africa and Brenda Anugwom, CEO of the Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF), urged INEC to ensure timely distribution of sensitive materials so that accreditation and voting can begin promptly at 8:30 am.
The observers emphasized the need for seamless electronic transmission of polling unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), with adequate backup for the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
They also demanded that INEC publish clear protocols explaining the end-to-end transmission process, including the role of electronic EC8A forms and backend validation.
“Ward EC8B and Local Government EC8C collation sheets should be published on IReV alongside polling unit results. This would enable citizens, parties, and observers to verify results at every stage,” they stated.
The EU-SDGN EOH further urged INEC to deploy trained staff and assistive voting devices to support women, youths, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
On political parties, the observers reminded candidates to respect the July 30, 2026 Peace Accord and accept INEC’s declared results, stressing that grievances should be pursued through lawful and judicial means rather than violence or intimidation.
They also called on security agencies to remain neutral, secure polling units and collation centres, and disclose progress on investigations into electoral violence to deter impunity.
The observers advised the media to verify information before publication, avoid amplifying fake news, and refrain from broadcasting unofficial results.
Voters were urged to arrive early, reject inducements, and report malpractice to INEC or accredited observers.
According to the EU-SDGN EOH, these recommendations aim to support a free, fair, peaceful, and credible election in Osun State.
