Cross River State Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Odey, narrowly escaped injury after his convoy was involved in an accident in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. as Odey and his entourage were returning to Calabar from Obanliku, where they had attended a stakeholders’ meeting on the proposed concession of the Obudu Ranch Resort.
Reports indicate that a Government House press bus carrying aides and staff of the Deputy Governor’s office veered off its lane near an Army checkpoint and crashed into sandbag barricades.
At least two individuals sustained injuries, including one with a leg injury and another bleeding from the nose.
The severity of their conditions is yet to be confirmed.Several vehicles in the convoy were damaged, though the extent of the damage remains unclear.
This marks the third accident involving Odey’s convoy in just two months, raising concerns about the condition of vehicles used for official movements.
Sources suggest that the Deputy Governor’s office has faced a depleted fleet, often relying on vehicles from the governor’s convoy when necessary.
Officials have declined to comment on the latest incident, while further assessments are ongoing.
