Ogun State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Friday formally received hundreds of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) into the ruling party.
The reception, held at the Ojude-Oba carnival ground in Ijebu-Ode, drew a massive crowd of APC members, supporters, and new entrants from across the nine local government areas of Ogun East Senatorial District.
Governor Abiodun hailed the move as proof that the defectors had “seen the light,” assuring them of equal treatment and full integration into the APC.
He urged both new and existing members to mobilise support at the grassroots ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence in the APC’s continued dominance in the state.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements since 2019, Abiodun pointed to over 100 completed road projects in Ogun East, including 26 in Ijebu-Ode, as well as major infrastructure initiatives such as the Gateway International Airport, the Olokola Deep Sea Port, and the Olokola-Kajola Gas Industrial Free Zone.
He announced that the reconstruction of the Ago-Iwoye–Ibadan Road would be flagged off on Monday with the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi.
The governor dismissed opposition parties as lacking tangible achievements, declaring:“In 2019, they fell. In 2023, they also fell. And I am certain that in 2027, they will fail again.”
Abiodun expressed optimism that Ogun would soon join Nigeria’s oil-producing states, stressing that ongoing projects would transform the state’s economy.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for his support, predicting strong backing for Tinubu’s re-election bid from the South-West.
Ogun APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, attributed the influx of defectors to Abiodun’s performance, assuring them of equal rights within the party.
Former PDP and ADC leaders, including Asiwaju Oladapo Odumosu, Rotimi Okenla, and Hon. Erinle Opeoluwa, praised the governor’s accommodating leadership and pledged loyalty to the APC.
The defectors vowed to work tirelessly for the party’s victory in 2027, signalling a major boost for APC’s mobilisation efforts in Ogun East.
