Ekiti State’s political landscape took a surprising turn as Dr Wole Oluyede, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the June 2026 election, met with Governor Biodun Oyebanji to pledge support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Oluyede described the meeting, held in Lagos, as “a significant step toward unity and cooperation beyond party lines,” stressing that Ekiti leaders must prioritize development and collective progress over political rivalry.
He recalled that Governor Oyebanji had visited him immediately after the June election, noting that Thursday’s meeting was a reciprocal gesture rooted in respect and shared responsibility.
“Political differences should not destroy the bonds that unite us as Ekiti people. What we are known for is Omoluabi, and we will forever remain so,” Oluyede said.
Oluyede, who recently launched the Oluyede Progressive Alliance for Renewed Hope Agenda (OPARHA), vowed to lead grassroots mobilisation across Ekiti’s 16 local government areas.
He emphasized that the campaign would involve traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, women, professionals, and business owners.“Our target is clear. We want Ekiti to give President Tinubu 90 per cent. We will go house to house, village to village, and community to community to mobilise support,” he declared.
Governor Oyebanji praised Oluyede’s “statesmanship and demonstrated commitment to Ekiti’s progress and national development,” while his media aide, Yinka Oyebode, confirmed that discussions also touched on Oyebanji’s upcoming second-term agenda.
Both leaders underscored that their cooperation should be seen as a broader push for Ekiti unity and development, not just partisan politics.
