FG, Borno Govt Intensify Efforts to Rescue 44 Abducted Pupils

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has assured parents of the 44 schoolchildren abducted from Mussa Central Primary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area that both the Federal and State Governments are working tirelessly to secure their release.

Speaking during a meeting with the families on Friday, Zulum expressed deep sympathy and conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s concern over the incident.

He noted that the President had directed security agencies to prioritise the rescue mission.

“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, I extend my sympathies over what happened at Mussa Central Primary School on May 15, 2026. Mr President has directed security agencies to ensure the rescue of our children, and I believe they are working towards it,” Zulum said.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of the pupils, stressing that the matter remained a top priority.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, Acting Chief of Staff to the Governor Babagana Mustapha Mallumbe, Commissioner for Education Lawan Abba Wakilbe, Commissioner for Inter-Governmental Affairs and Special Duties Samaila Abdulaziz Satumari, and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment Juliana Bitrus.

The parents, who had earlier appealed for intensified rescue efforts, were reassured that both state and federal authorities are united in their determination to bring the children back safely.
