Family members of the Emir of Yashikira Emirate in Kwara State, Alhaji Umar Seriki Usman, who were kidnapped earlier this year, have been released and returned home safely.
The Emirate confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday night, expressing gratitude to God and to the Baatombu Nation for their prayers and support during the ordeal.
“Alhamdulilah Robil Alamin. Yashikira Emirate is pleased to announce the freedom of the Royal Family Members from the kidnappers’ den; they are all back safe,” the statement read.
While details of the release remain unclear, including whether ransom was paid, the Emirate shared a photo of the Emir dressed in royal blue attire to mark the occasion. Security agencies in Kwara have yet to issue an official response.
The incident followed an earlier attack on the Emir’s palace by armed bandits, during which the monarch narrowly escaped but some of his relatives were abducted.
