Former Bayelsa governorship candidate and ex-President of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, Udengs Eradiri, has said the achievements of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, have exposed the shortcomings of many state governors.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Eradiri praised Wike for transforming Abuja and bridging the developmental gap between the city and its satellite towns within four years.
He argued that the minister’s performance demonstrates that Nigeria’s underdevelopment stems largely from poor leadership at the state and local government levels rather than from the Federal Government.
“Wike’s performance has taught us that the problems of underdevelopment in Nigeria have little or nothing to do with the Federal Government, but a lot to do with many state governors and local government chairmen, who deliberately misuse, misappropriate and misdirect the enormous resources accruing to their states,” Eradiri said.
He noted that Wike’s projects, which include completing long-abandoned infrastructure and initiating new ones, reflect President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that Wike’s ability to overcome bureaucratic bottlenecks and enforce accountability among contractors has ensured timely delivery of quality projects.
Eradiri questioned why many governors, despite receiving huge allocations under Tinubu’s administration, have failed to provide basic amenities such as roads, electricity, healthcare, and potable water.
He described them as “grossly incompetent” and urged Nigerians to hold their governors accountable rather than blaming the Federal Government.
“With the huge revenue allocations accruing to the states following the economic reforms of President Tinubu, the people should not tolerate any excuses for poor performance from their governors,” he said.
He called on governors to emulate Wike by channeling increased revenues into tangible projects that directly impact citizens, stressing that Nigerians will no longer accept excuses for abandoned projects and poor governance.
