Presidential Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has reacted sharply to Peter Obi’s recent interview on Channels TV, describing it as a “PR disaster” for the former Anambra governor’s 2027 .
In a statement shared on his X account, Onanuga pointed out two main issues that caught his attention during the interview with Seun Okinbaloye.
First, Onanuga took issue with Obi’s response to questions about political nomadism. Obi reportedly compared his party movements to those of President Bola Tinubu.
Onanuga rejected the comparison, stating that Tinubu has remained consistent on the progressive path since joining politics in 1991/92.
He started with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he won a Senate seat with a record vote, and has stayed within ideologically aligned parties.
Second, Onanuga criticised Obi’s continued claim of winning the 2023 presidential election. He said Obi came third and only performed strongly due to ethnic bloc voting.
Onanuga noted that when asked if he believed he was rigged out, Obi agreed, which he described as falling into a trap. More than three years after the Supreme Court ruling, Obi is still in denial, according to Onanuga.
Onanuga described Obi as a “political nomad” who jumps between ideologically different parties and does not build structures, relying instead on social media followers.
He warned that if the current platform fails to deliver, Obi would likely move to another party.
The remarks come amid ongoing political discourse as parties prepare for future elections.
