Three Soldiers Reportedly Killed, Several Injured in Suspected IED Explosion in Niger

Three Nigerian soldiers were reportedly killed and several others injured after their patrol vehicle struck a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Babanna in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

Conflict and security journalist Bakatsine shared the report on X on Sunday, citing local sources. According to the account, the incident occurred on Saturday morning between Machiyan Gyada and Baturen Daji in the Dekara axis as the troops were returning from a security patrol.

“Yesterday morning, three Nigerian soldiers were reportedly killed and several others injured after their patrol vehicle allegedly struck an improvised explosive device (IED) near Babanna in Borgu LGA of Niger State,” Bakatsine wrote.

As of the time of reporting, neither the Nigerian Armed Forces nor the Niger State Government had issued an official statement confirming the incident.

The explosion comes weeks after three separate IED incidents were recorded in Sokoto State, raising fresh concerns about the increasing use of roadside bombs by criminal elements and insurgents against security forces in parts of northern Nigeria.
