Tragedy as Bauchi Ex-Deputy Governor Loses Two Children in Fatal Road Crash

The immediate past Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Baba Tela, is in mourning following the tragic death of two of his children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a fatal road accident.

The siblings reportedly died on Saturday after the vehicle conveying them was involved in a crash along the Bauchi–Azare highway while returning to Bauchi from Azare, headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area.

They were said to have died on the spot due to the severity of the impact. Their bodies were later conveyed to a hospital in Bauchi, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths.

Reacting to the incident, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, expressed profound grief and extended condolences to Senator Baba Tela and his family.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed described the incident as heartbreaking and a painful loss not only to the Tela family but to the entire people of Bauchi State.

He said the untimely death of the two young lives had brought sorrow across the state, noting that no words could adequately console the bereaved family.

The governor prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and give their family the strength and patience to bear the irreparable loss.

The funeral prayer for Mustapha and Ummi is scheduled to hold at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
