PFIPC Scandal: ‘Gbajabiamila Needs to Step Aside’ – SDP Chairman

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Professor Sadiq Gombe, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to resign amid the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Speaking in Abuja after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, Gombe said Gbajabiamila should step down both as Chief of Staff and as PFIPC chairman to allow for an independent probe.

“Gbajabiamila needs to step aside, not just as chairman of this important committee, but also from his position as Chief of Staff to the President. The right thing to do is for him to step aside for a proper independent probe into the allegation,” Gombe stated.

He also criticized Gbajabiamila’s appointment to head the committee on state police, arguing that it was inappropriate for someone facing allegations to lead such a sensitive national assignment.

Gombe further faulted the committee’s composition, claiming it lacked regional balance and did not reflect Nigeria’s diversity.

SDP Lagos governorship candidate, Femi Olaniyi, echoed the concerns, describing the PFIPC scandal as disappointing and accusing the Federal Government of losing focus.

He urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation, voter registration campaigns, and membership drives ahead of the 2027 elections.

The controversy has sparked wider debate, with opposition figures and civil society groups demanding transparency and accountability in the handling of the PFIPC allegations.
