The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has secured the conviction of a 28-year-old man, Ashiru Idris, who was found guilty of advertising c@nnabis for sale on social media.
In a statement released by the Kano Strategic Command’s Media and Advocacy Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the agency confirmed that Idris was arrested on April 22, 2026, after a video surfaced online showing him promoting c@nnabis.
Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kano sentenced Idris to seven years in prison without the option of a fine, with the sentence taking effect from July 14, 2026.
The NDLEA described the ruling as a strong deterrent to individuals who publicly promote or engage in illegal drug activities.
Kano State Commander, CN D.Y. Lawal, emphasized that the judgment reinforces the agency’s commitment to swiftly act on credible leads and ensure offenders face justice.
The agency further urged families, community leaders, social media platforms, and the public to support its anti-drug campaign by providing useful information to help combat drug abuse.
