Makinde Sets Up Judicial Panel to Investigate Oriire School Abduction

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has constituted a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to probe the abduction of pupils and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, announced the development in a statement issued Thursday in Ibadan.

He explained that the panel, which will be inaugurated on Friday, is tasked with uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident and identifying factors that led to the security breach.

“The commission will examine the events leading to the kidnapping, assess the response of relevant authorities, and recommend measures to improve security and safeguard schools and communities across the state,” Oyelade said.

He added that the move reflects Governor Makinde’s commitment to ensuring a thorough and independent investigation into the May 15 abduction, which saw pupils and teachers held captive for 56 days before their eventual rescue.

The commission is expected to make recommendations aimed at preventing a recurrence and strengthening security across Oyo State’s educational institutions and rural communities.
