The Edo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has distanced itself from former chairman Kennedy Odion, insisting he was expelled alongside 10 others during the party’s national convention held on April 14, 2026.
In a statement on Sunday, the newly recognized chairman, Tony Alile, clarified the party’s position, stressing that Odion no longer has the authority to act or speak on behalf of the ADC.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Kennedy Odion is not recognized by the party as a member or official,” Alile said, adding that Odion’s tenure expired on May 19, 2026.
Alile accused Odion of issuing unauthorized statements and convening meetings in the party’s name, warning the public to disregard such actions.
He urged members and stakeholders to verify all communications through the duly recognized state and national leadership.
However, Odion dismissed the claims, describing them as “a statement of frustration.”
He maintained that he remains the legitimate chairman, citing court rulings that nullified his purported expulsion and upheld his leadership. “As far as the law is concerned, I remain the chairman of the party in the state, and anybody claiming otherwise is doing so illegally,” he said.
The dispute shows deepening divisions within the Edo ADC, with rival factions trading accusations as the party positions itself ahead of the 2027 elections.
