Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State has called on Nigerians in the United Kingdom, particularly Kogites, to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and contribute to the development of both the state and the nation.
Speaking at a Town Hall Meeting in London, Ododo urged the diaspora community to project a positive image of Nigeria and channel their investments, expertise, and global networks towards nation-building.
“Nigeria’s future depends on the collective efforts of its citizens at home and abroad. Bring home not only your investments, but also your ideas, innovation, and global networks,” the governor said, according to a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo.
Ododo highlighted the unity nurtured in Kogi State over the past decade as the foundation for its rapid transformation, stressing that progress has been achieved by rising above ethnic and religious divisions. He praised President Tinubu for taking “difficult but necessary decisions” such as fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification, which he said have boosted states’ financial capacity to invest in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture.
The governor also pointed to federal interventions transforming Kogi, including approval for the Kogi International Airport, the Free Trade Zone, agricultural processing projects, and renewed efforts to revive the Ajaokuta Steel Company.
He launched the Kogi Rebrand Initiative, urging citizens to become ambassadors of the state: “No nation rises above the story it tells about itself. Let us speak with honesty, criticise with patriotism, and promote our nation with confidence.”
Hon. Salman Idris, representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, commended Ododo’s development strides and urged diaspora Kogites to support his agenda. Participants at the meeting applauded the governor’s achievements in infrastructure, security, education, and healthcare, pledging to mobilise investments and expertise to advance Kogi’s transformation.
