Some victims abducted along the Otukpo–Ogobia Road in Benue State have been partially freed, as kidnappers released the driver, the corpse of an elderly woman, and one of her three children.
The family had reportedly been travelling from Abuja to Oklenyi in Okpokwu Local Government Area for the burial of their late mother when their vehicle broke down.
Armed men allegedly ambushed them while stranded and took them captive.Family sources confirmed that the abductors later freed the driver, handed over the deceased woman’s body, and released one of the siblings.
The remains of the woman have since been taken to Okpoga, where funeral rites are underway. However, two of the siblings remain in captivity, with the kidnappers demanding ₦30 million for their release.
Relatives are said to be working to raise the ransom while appealing to security agencies to intensify rescue efforts.
The development has left the family torn between relief at recovering their mother’s body for burial and anxiety over the fate of the two siblings still held hostage.
As of press time, the Benue State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
