The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has suffered a setback ahead of the 2027 general elections, as several members in Kumbotso Local Government Area have defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
The defectors, largely youths, were formally received into the NDC on Sunday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Rabiu Fasaha, alongside Captain Nafe, the NDC candidate for the State House of Assembly in Kumbotso.
The development was described as a significant boost for the NDC in the area, with the new members pledging loyalty and support for the party’s vision.
Speaking at the event, Fasaha said the defection reflected the growing acceptance of the NDC among young people, assuring the newcomers of equal opportunities and inclusion within the party structure.
Captain Nafe also welcomed the defectors, urging them to mobilize at the grassroots ahead of the elections.
He emphasized that the NDC remains committed to youth empowerment and people-centered representation.
