Tensions are rising within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the G15 coalition of aggrieved party members prepares for a major rally in Ilorin, defying alleged attempts by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to block the event.
The G15, made up of stakeholders, aspirants, and leaders dissatisfied with the outcome of recent governorship and legislative primaries, had initially scheduled their rally for Sunday but postponed it over security concerns after the governor’s loyalists staged a counter-rally.
In a strongly worded statement, the group accused Governor Abdulrazaq of plotting to sabotage their rescheduled solidarity walk by organizing a parallel “thank-you visit” to the Emir’s Palace.
“This is nothing but a transparent act of political desperation from a man who has suddenly found himself in the minority within his own party,” the coalition declared.
The G15 alleged that government agents were offering financial inducements to discourage attendance at their rally while mobilizing paid crowds to boost the governor’s image.
They insisted, however, that no amount of intimidation or bribery would stop their gathering.
Calling themselves “the conscience of the APC in Kwara,” the group urged security agencies to remain neutral and professional, stressing that their rally would be peaceful and focused on promoting inclusion, fairness, and internal democracy.
“We are the future of this party, and we will not be intimidated by a desperate empire fighting to retain its fading grip on power,” the statement added.
The showdown highlights deepening divisions within the Kwara APC ahead of the 2027 elections, with both camps vying to demonstrate grassroots support and political strength.
