A senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), identified as Abu Hassan, has been killed during a recent attack on Cross Kauwa in Borno State, while another commander sustained serious injuries, intelligence sources have confirmed.
Abu Hassan, described as one of the group’s Qaids operating from the Tumbunma axis, reportedly led the assault before being neutralised in the confrontation.
Sources also revealed that a foreign fighter of Arab origin died in the attack, while another remains missing.
Another ISWAP commander, Aliyi Zabarmari, who led fighters from the Tumbunma enclave, sustained a gunshot wound that fractured his thigh.
Security analysts say the loss of these key figures represents a significant setback for ISWAP, as the commanders played crucial roles in coordinating operations across the Lake Chad region.
