Unknown gunmen abducted Rev. Dr. Samuel Gbinde, a pastor of the NKST church, along with two members of his congregation in Benue State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when armed men stormed the pastor’s residence at the NKST Church in Andyar, within the Ishan Classis area of the state. The NKST leadership confirmed the abduction, describing it as unfortunate.
In a statement issued on June 30, 2026, and signed by the church’s General Secretary, Rev. Dr. T. A. Targba, the denomination appealed to Christians and the general public to pray for the safe and unconditional release of the victims.
The church expressed sympathy to the families of the abducted persons and the Andyar congregation, praying for God’s strength and comfort during this difficult period.
NKST further called on security agencies, the Benue State Government, and the Federal Government to step up efforts toward rescuing the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice. The denomination urged the authorities to shift focus toward more proactive and sustainable strategies to tackle kidnapping and broader security challenges in the region, emphasizing prevention over reaction.
Reaffirming its faith, the church stated it remains steadfast in prayer and is confident that Rev. Dr. Gbinde, the two church members, and all others in captivity will return safely. It also prayed for divine protection over the Church and lasting peace and security across Nigeria.
