China has reaffirmed its dedication to deepening its longstanding partnership with Nigeria, promising enhanced collaboration in governance, economic growth, and strategic areas as the Communist Party of China (CPC) celebrates its 105th anniversary.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, highlighted the CPC’s pivotal role in transforming China into the world’s second-largest economy and a key driver of global growth. The CPC, founded in 1921, has led China through significant achievements in revolution, reform, and development, fostering national rejuvenation and improving living standards for its people.
The ambassador noted that under CPC leadership, China has pursued a modernisation path tailored to its unique national conditions rather than imitating Western models. This approach has provided valuable development options for other developing nations seeking independent progress.
He outlined four key pillars of China’s success: independence and self-reliance, a people-centred development philosophy, continuous self-reform, and theoretical innovation.
Achievements under the Party include eradicating absolute poverty, building the world’s largest education and social security systems, and expanding healthcare and pension coverage. The CPC has also strengthened its governance through rigorous self-discipline, anti-corruption measures, and new theoretical frameworks, such as President Xi Jinping’s thought on Party building.
On the global stage, China has promoted initiatives like the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilisation Initiative, aiming to build “a community with a shared future for mankind.”
Reflecting on bilateral relations, Ambassador Yu emphasised the strong friendship between China and Nigeria over 55 years of diplomatic ties established in 1971. “For 55 years, China and Nigeria have stood together through thick and thin as good friends and trusted partners,” he said. The two nations have deepened political mutual trust, expanded practical cooperation across various fields, and delivered tangible benefits to their peoples.
China remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s development goals, backing its pursuit of a modernisation path suited to its own realities, and advancing cooperation that enhances the well-being of Nigerians. Both countries continue to align priorities through platforms like the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and by linking China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Looking forward, the ambassador expressed China’s readiness to elevate the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This includes strengthening exchanges on party building and governance, enhancing strategic communication, and converting political consensus into more robust practical cooperation for mutual benefit.
The statement reflects a shared vision of advancing China-Nigeria relations to new heights while contributing to broader prosperity in China-Africa ties and global peace and development.
