Residents of Ondo community in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, abandoned their homes on Tuesday morning after suspected armed herdsmen launched a fresh attack.
According to reports, the assailants invaded the area in the early hours, firing sporadically and triggering panic among locals, who fled to safer grounds.
Hon. Jimmy Nart, a native of the community and Labour Party candidate for the House of Assembly in the 2027 elections, confirmed the ongoing assault. In a message, he stated: “I just received information from my family that Fulani terrorists are currently attacking Ondo, Ugboju. Protect yourself.”
This incident occurs just two days after suspected herdsmen attacked Otukpo-Nobi community in the same LGA, where over 18 people were reportedly killed.
Casualties from the latest attack in Ondo could not be independently verified as of the time of reporting. Efforts to get a response from the Benue State Police Command proved unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, did not reply to calls or messages.
Tensions remain high in the area, with many families continuing to evacuate amid fears of further violence.
