Wike-Backed PDP Threatens Legal Action Against Turaki Camp

The Nyesom Wike-backed leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is considering legal action against the Tanimu Turaki faction for allegedly parading themselves as the authentic leaders of the party despite multiple court judgments against them.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, disclosed this while speaking with Saturday PUNCH on Friday.

He revealed that the Wike-backed PDP has already petitioned security agencies, urging them to intervene in the matter.

Mohammed stated that the faction would await advice from its legal department on the next line of action.

He expressed confidence that security agencies are handling the petitions but noted delays in decisive steps.“We cannot compel the security agencies… At the appropriate time, we will review the situation and see if there is a need for any legal action,” he said.

The crisis stems from the Supreme Court’s narrow 3-2 decision on April 30, 2026, which voided the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025.

That convention, backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, produced the Turaki-led leadership.

Following the judgment, the Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees reconstituted an Interim National Working Committee under Turaki.

This group has continued to operate in opposition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)-recognised PDP leadership backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

In response, Ini Ememobong, Publicity Secretary of the Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee, dismissed the threat, insisting the matter is purely legal and not a security issue.

“Our reaction is simple: it shows the level of ignorance of the law upon which they operate. This issue is not a matter for security; it is a legal matter where the judgment of court is involved, and we acted in accordance with the judgments, PDP Constitution, and Nigerian laws,” Ememobong said.

He warned that petitioners are not always right and could end up being the ones pursued, adding that his faction’s leadership remains genuine and will continue running the affairs of the PDP.

The fresh threat of legal action underscores the deepening leadership crisis within the PDP as the party heads toward the 2027 general elections.
