The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers wanted in connection with the kidnapping and murder of hostages in Edo State.
The suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were apprehended in the Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State following intelligence-driven operations by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the breakthrough followed the apprehension of the two suspicious persons by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo are members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the kidnapping and murder of two hostages in the Okada area of Edo State.
During a search, operatives recovered a pair of police camouflage uniforms and three mobile phones from the suspects. The exhibits have been documented for further investigation.
Babaseyi stated that since the alleged offences occurred in Edo State, the suspects and recovered items will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution, in line with inter-state policing procedures.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for the arrest, describing it as a result of effective intelligence gathering and collaboration.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to preventing Ogun State from being used as a hideout or transit point for criminals.
Ojajuni urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies to combat crime.
